Climate Awareness Garden

TES, under the auspices of Residents Forward, improves the local community's environmental stewardship and strengthens students' leadership, cognitive development, and civic responsibility.  The program allows elementary through high school students to build and maintain a garden on the campus of the Port Washington middle and high schools following the principals of square foot gardening.  Through activities in and related to the garden, students learn how our food choices impact climate change and explore practical solutions they can implement.  Older students have leadership and mentoring opportunities working with the elementary-aged students.  Students can demonstrate and display what they have learned and impact the community through print and social media, community events and workshops, and a campaign with local businesses to provide climate-friendly meals and reduce food waste.
